Take Me Back in Time to a Simpler Life
Take Me Back To When Life Was Simple
So, lately I have had a lot of changes in my life. I have moved out on my own, bought a dog, got back with an ex, met new friends, and just living life. However, I have been thinking about life. I have been thinking about what it was like when it was simple. When all I used to worry about is if my best friend would call me that day and we could play house or what toy I would get in my Burger King kid's meal. When I was thinking, I thought what better topic then to show all the new generation kids what they are missing from what life was like as a '90s kid. Here is my list I came up with and some of my all time favorite things from when I was growing up as a kid. Which seems just so long ago. Some will click back in your head right away while others might bring back funny/crazy stories.
My goal in writing this is to allow so many other people like myself to read something and instantly be thrown back to what life was like to be a kid. So, when you are stress out about not having any money for rent, worried about getting a real job after college, take a look at this list and know that we all used to jump from pillow to pillow not trying to die in the lava that was the cream-colored carpet underneath. Allow these to send you back to those memories and have a good laugh, start a conversation, or reconnect with an old friend.
So, with all that said, you know you are a '90s kid when…
- Text messages? What? Passing notes back and forth to your best friend in class or in the hallway was the thing of the time. Folding them in all different ways and tabs made it even better.
- You had every color of gel pens you could think of: 100-count, 50-count, 200-count was the best. You would have a mini breakdown when one would dry out. You would secretly hope that your teacher would allow you to write in rainbow ink so you could use your new pens.
- The toy bins were either filled with Polly Pocket clothing, houses, dolls, cars, or GI Joe things. Spending hours dressing up the Polly Pocket in a new outfit that would go well with her outfit for her date.
- When going to the orthodontist was so exciting because then you could change your band colors. Sitting in the chair looking at that key ring filled with colors and constantly trying to figure out what color matches best or what holiday greens looked good for Christmas.
- When you got to decorate you AIM page and bio, thinking that was the coolest thing in the world. Or messaging friends from school because that was our way of texting
- Having a text limit of 100 texts a month and not going over the limit because no one would text.
- Having Doritos containers with a little cup to pour them in as a snack then filling it up with other things and drinking out of it.
- When the only pets you cared about was your cool Neopet or Tomagotchi. You could never have your own pet, so we took it to the Internet and had an electronic pet. We started young caring for pets.
- When the "it" shoe to wear was the adidas tennis shoes with lines on the side. I can remember getting basketball shoes just like that so I could change the colors to the color of our school thinking I was the bomb.
- Your room was filled with blow-up furniture—a couch, chair—you name it they made it.
